For the last several years, the Blackburn Physical Education and Sport Management Department has been involved with the Macoupin Center for Developmental Disabilities in Carlinville for special programs that benefit everyone. Blackburn students from PE 407, Physical Education for the Atypical Child, attend MCDD events to observe and learn, then work hands-on with developmentally disabled to design activities with equipment such as scooters and beanbags.
As part of their work with MCDD, Blackburn students choose a disability and write on their field experiences, which is part of their final. The programs have proven highly popular with Blackburn students and MCDD attendees alike.
